Alexi Laiho – famous Finnish rocker,the guitarist and vocalist of Children of Bodom died suddenly at the age of 41. His career is closely linked to the bands Children of Bodom and Bodom After Midnight.
The rocker died at home in Helsinki last week after battling “long term health issues”, according to his label Napalm Rercords.
A statement from his bandmates in Bodom After Midnight confirmed the news, saying: “It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we have to announce the passing of Alexi Laiho. We are absolutely devastated and heartbroken for the sudden loss of our dear friend and band member.”
Kelli Laiho-Wright, wife of Alexi Laiho also said: “Alexi was the most loving and magnificent husband and father. Our hearts are eternally broken.”
The artist’s sister said that her family was absolutely shocked and devastated by the loss. They asked for privacy and understanding during those hard times and her brother’s funeral would take place privately.
Alexi Laiho was born in 1979. He formed the band “Children of Bodom” with Jaska Raatikainen in 1993 and they had released 10 studio albums and two live albums which achieved chart positions on the Billboard 200 in America. They also topped the chart in Finland which helped the band to become one of the country’s top-selling musical acts of all time. However “Children of Bodom” disbanded in 2019.
After that, Laiho and his bandmate Daniel Freyberg continued their music careers as “Bodom After Midnight” in 2020. They admitted more members including: Waltteri Väyrynen (drums), Mitja Toivonen (bass) and Lauri Salomaa. The group recorded three songs and filmed a music video, which is set to be released later on this year posthumously.
In addition to “Children of Bodom” and “Bodom After Midnight“, Alexi Laiho also joined several other groups such as Sinergy, The Local Band, Thy Serpent and Impaled Nazarene. In 2011, the star was ranked in the top 100 Greatest Heavy Metal Guitarists of All Time by Guitar World.
